The team joined the NBA Western Conference Northwest Division and went on to play in the playoffs a total of 22 times. The Sonics won the division title six times and advanced to the finals three times. The franchise won the NBA Championship in 1979. In the 2008-2009 season, the Sonics relocated to Oklahoma City after 41 years in Seattle and were renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team recruited forward Kevin Durant and guard Russell Westbrook, who helped qualify the team for the playoffs. The Thunders went to the Western Conference finals in 2010-2011 and 2013-2014. They reached the NBA finals in 2011-2012. The Thunder went against the Golden State Warriors in the conference finals in 2015-2016. In 2016-2017, Durant left the Thunder to join the Warriors.
