Pac-12 Basketball Tournament TicketsThe Pac-12 has more than 100 years of rich history as the premier West Coast league of NCAA Division I basketball. It is the home of the 11-time champion UCLA Bruins and the 1997 champion Arizona Wildcats. The modern Pac-12 can trace its roots back to the founding of the Pacific Coast Conference in 1915, when it consisted of the original charter members Oregon, Oregon State, California and Washington. The name Pac-8 was adopted in 1968 to signify the number of members in the conference. Arizona and Arizona State joined a decade later to make it 10. Following conference realignment in 2011, the conference expanded to encompass 12 members from across the western United States, including the states of Utah and Colorado. The conference first held basketball tournaments between 1987 and 1990. Following a 12-year hiatus, the postseason tournament was resurrected in 2002, giving teams a chance to make one last impression on the NCAA selection committee. Which teams take part in the Pac-12 Tournament? The tournament features all 12 teams of the conference. The teams are seeded by their regular season conference record. Tiebreakers are used to distinguish multiple teams with the same record.
What is the format of the tournament? The Pac-12 Tournament consists of four separate rounds spread out over four days. The first round features four matchups between the last eight seeds, and the top seeds all receive a bye. The winners of the first-round games then advance to face the top four seeds in the quarterfinals. The semifinals and the championship game then proceed as normal. All games are single elimination, so there is no consolation bracket. The tournament itself is divided up into separate sessions, each consisting of one or two games. During the first two rounds, there are two sessions per day. The semifinals and championship game consist of only a single session.
What is the benefit of winning the tournament?Apart from a trophy and a place in history, the winner of the championship game receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament regardless of the team’s overall record. Even a team that might not otherwise qualify by the standards of the selection committee could receive a bid by winning the Pac-12 Tournament. However, winning the conference tourney does not guarantee a specific seed or placement in the NCAA Tournament.
Where does the Pac-12 Tournament take place? The 2020 Pac-12 Tournament will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nev., between March 11th and 14th. The T-Mobile Arena, which is the official home of the Vegas Golden Knights from the NHL, has a seating capacity of 18,000 for basketball games. Apart from standard seating, the state-of-the-art arena also features luxury suites and party suites, all kinds of modern amenities and a wide selection of restaurants and concessions. For guests with disabilities, ADA accessibility is available on every level. The Pac-12 Tournament first came to Vegas in 2013 following a long stint at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The newly built T-Mobile Arena began hosting the event in 2017.
What was the result of the 2019 Pac-12 Tournament? In the 2019 tournament, No. 6 seed Oregon beat No. 1 seed Washington by a score of 68-48 to clinch its improbable championship. The Ducks had previously knocked off the No. 2 Arizona State in the semifinals and No. 3 Utah in the quarterfinals. Ducks guard Payton Pritchard was named the tournament MVP. Since the conference expanded to 12 teams, past winners have included Colorado in 2012, Oregon in 2013 and 2016, UCLA in 2014 and Arizona in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
