Jim Thorpe is a borough located in the state of Pennsylvania, seated in Carbon County. The town was founded in 1818 and was originally known as Mauch Chunk. Mauch Chiunk was renamed Jim Thorpe following the 1953 death of the athlete of the same name. Thorpe was a legendary athletic competitor that is best-known for his accomplishments in the Olympics and the National Football League.
