Perpetual Groove, aka PGroove, is a Georgia-based jam band known for its signature blend of Southern rock, indie, funk and jazz. Since its formation in 1997, the band has released seven albums and become most beloved by fans as a live act whose vibrant concerts are accompanied by entrancing light shows.

Perpetual Groove's background

Perpetual Groove was formed in 1997 in Savannah, Ga., by guitarist/singer Brock Butler and bassist Adam Perry, and later included keyboardist/singer Adam Perry and drummer Albert Suttle. The musicians spent their early days honing their sound at local venues in and around Athens, Ga., and in 1999 they released their self-titled debut album. The follow-up, Sweet Oblivious Antidote, arrived in 2003, along with Perpetual Groove's first full U.S. tour and a handful of international appearances.

The band continued to evolve its sound both on the road and in the recording studio, from the trancey, 15-track All This Everything released (2004) to the arena rock-embracing sound of 2007's LIVELOVEDIE. The ballad "It Starts Where It Ends" from the latter has become a fan favorite and staple of Perpetual Groove's live set. In 2009, the band released the full-length album Heal. Following a two-year hiatus from early 2013 to 2015, Perpetual Groove released the EP Familiar Stare.

Perpetual Groove's biggest concerts

The Perpetual Groove live experience was at its most epic during the band's self-hosted Amberland festival, held over Memorial Day weekend every year from 2007 to 2012. The band helped transform a farm outside LaFayette, Ga., into an outdoor concert venue and campground. In addition to Perpetual Groove's long sets and performances by its members' side projects, frontman Brock Butler's Sunday morning acoustic set was a signature feature of the festival.

A couple of Perpetual Groove concerts at the Georgia Theatre in Athens - the first in April 2013 and second in May 2015 - are notable as bookends to the band's two-year hiatus. The 2013 performance was declared Perpetual Groove's final concert and played in front of a sold-out crowd. After reuniting two years later, the group played the same venue in to fans' delight. The reformed band went on to headline the Resonance Music & Arts Festival in Thornville, Ohio, shortly afterward.
