Peter Perrett tour dates
Best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of The Only Ones, Peter Perrett is one of the most esteemed names in power pop and new wave. Both as a band member and solo act, Perrett has performed on several headline tours and at major music festivals across the globe. After launching a successful solo career with his 2017 debut album, How The West Was Won, he embarked on a supporting same-named tour of the U.K.
Peter Perrett's history
Born Peter Albert Neil Perrett in Camberwell, South London, Perrett spent much of his teenage life rebelling against authority. After being expelled from several schools, he left home at 16 and ran away with his girlfriend, Xenoulla "Zena" Kakoulli. The couple married in 1970 and formed The Only Ones in 1976 with Zena as manager. Prior to this, Perrett recorded material with the band England's Glory.
In 1977, The Only Ones self-released their debut single "Lovers of Today." They eventually signed to Columbia Records and released their eponymous first studio effort in 1978. The album featured the band's most successful single, "Another Girl, Another Planet," which was later covered by big-name artists such as Blink-182 and The Libertines. The band released two more albums, Even Serpents Shine and Baby's Got a Gun, before parting ways in 1982.
Following a long hiatus, Perrett re-emerged on the music scene with a new band, The One, in 1994. Two years later, the band released their debut album, Woke up Sticky, through Demon Records. Shortly after it hit the shelves, the band split and Perrett retreated from the limelight until 2004 when he performed the track "Another Girl, Another Planet" on stage with The Libertines. He also performed with his sons' band, Love Minus Zero.
In 2007, The Only Ones reformed after "Another Girl, Another Planet" was featured in a Vodafone advert. The band then embarked on a five-date U.K. tour and performed far and wide at major music festivals across the world. They also released several remastered albums before going on hiatus again in late 2014.
In January 2015, Perrett began performing as an artist in his own right. He released his debut solo album, How The West Was Won, through Domino Records in June 2017.
Peter Perrett's personal life
Perrett has two sons, both of whom are talented musicians: Jamie is a guitarist and vocalist, while Peter Jr. is a bassist. The pair have performed as part of the backing band on the album How The West Has Won and on the Peter Perrett tour. They have also played in several bands independent of their father, including Babyshambles, Love Minus Zero and Strangefruit.
