Puddle of Mudd tour dates
With more than 7 million albums sold, five No. 1 singles, and four Billboard Music Awards, Puddle of Mudd remain one of the most successful acts to emerge from the early millennium alt-metal scene. With their singular brand of angsty, guitar-driven metal -- equally influenced by grunge and hard rock -- Puddle of Mudd is known for live renditions of their five-album back catalog augmented by a raucous atmosphere.
Puddle of Mudd's background
Puddle of Mudd was formed in 1991 in Kansas City by guitarist/vocalist Wes Scantlin, the only original member still with the band. Following almost a decade of music making, including the independent release of the album Abrasive, Puddle of Mudd's lineup had evolved to include Paul Phillips (guitar), Douglas Ardito (bass) and Greg Upchurch (drums). This incarnation of the band was signed to Fred Durst's label, Flawless Records, and released the album Come Clean in 2001. The move to a major label proved a success for Puddle of Mudd, with the album selling more than 5 million copies and producing the break-out song "Blurry." That single reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, No. 8 on the U.K. Singles Chart, and won the ASCAP Song of the Year award. Also from Come Clean, the singles "Drift & Die" and "She Hates Me" both went to No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart, with the latter peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Puddle of Mudd followed the release of Come Clean with a European tour opening for Godsmack and Deftones. They continued touring stateside as part of the Family Values 2001 tour alongside Stone Temple Pilots, Staind and Linkin Park.
In 2003, Puddle of Mudd released Life on Display, which would be certified gold and produce three singles: "Away From Me," "Heel Over Head" and "Spin You Around." The next studio album, Famous, came in 2007, and gave the band a No. 1 song on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and Hot Modern Rock Tracks charts with "Psycho."
Puddle of Mudd's notable awards
In 2002, Puddle of Mudd won four Billboard Music Awards: Modern Rock Artist of the Year, Rock Artist of the Year, and for "Blurry" Modern Rock Track of the Year and Rock Track of the Year. The band was nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist at the 2003 American Music Awards.
