Rapid City Rush has been bringing ice hockey to the people of Rapid City, SD, since 2008 when the team was part of the Central Hockey League. Along with six other teams, they made the jump to the ECHL for the 2014-15 season. Other teams that became part of the ECHL that season were the Allen Americans, the Brampton Beast, the Missouri Mavericks, the Quad City Mallards, the Tulsa Oilers and the Wichita Thunder. This made the Rapid City Rush one of 28 teams playing in the ECHL to play in the West Division of the Western Conference. In 2015, the Rapid City Rush became affiliated with the National Hockey League's Arizona Coyotes, which was the first time that the Rush was officially affiliated with an NHL team. This was important because it highlighted a new level of opportunity for Rapid City Rush players, who now had a pipeline into career advancement playing in the National Hockey League. Daniel Tetrault serves as head coach for the Rapid City Rush as well as the director of hockey operations.
