The first Red Dirt Music & BBQ Festival was held in Tyler, Texas, May 3, 2014. The historic blending of grassroots country music and the best of Texas BBQ featured the Randy Rogers Band as headliners in the inaugural year. The band was joined by Whiskey Myers, Green River Ordinance and The Biggby's. In 2014, 15 barbecue restaurants served up brisket, sausage and ribs, including La Barbecue, Blacks, Hutchins and Louis Mueller. By the 2019 festival, 25 of the top barbecue purveyors in Texas were serving their specialties at the festival. The first year, 1500 hungry music fans enjoyed the festival in T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler. In 2019, 6000 people attended the Red Dirt Music & BBQ Festival. The festival sells out every year.
