Reed Arena was built to host mostly Texas A&M University events including basketball games and commencement exercises. However, the arena became the area's top destination for artists making their stop in College Station, Texas, after it replaced the G. Rollie White Coliseum. Named after its biggest donor, Chester Reed, the arena has an indoor seating capacity of 12,500 guests. It can additionally accommodate another 2,000 fans during a concert. Reed Arena was primarily constructed as the home of the men's and women's basketball team of the university. While there was endowment fund to support such vision, the university management saw that it was not enough to make the arena self-sufficient. It paved the way for Reed Arena to also host concerts and other live events to cover its budget deficit. Country band Dixie Chicks, performers from Cirque du Soleil and country singer Garth Brooks are among the artists who have held performances at this College Station arena.
