Rewind Festival South Tickets
Fans of 1980s music can get their kicks from the annual Rewind Festival South, also called the '80s Rewind Festival. And although it sticks to its roots, the festival has also expanded past its musical origins: attractions now include fireworks, disco and camping. Of course, music is the heart of the festival, and performers have included Gloria Gaynor, Kid Creole, Rick Astley, Bananarama and the Village People.
The festival has taken place every year since 2009, always in August and close to Henley-on-Thames. It follows a Friday through Sunday schedule, and because there is so much to do, fans may want to prioritise their activities. Performers get into the '80s groove on stages such as Main Stage, Riverside Stage and Other Stages, while a funfair gives an extra boost of thrill to the experience. Fireworks fans should set aside time on Saturday and Sunday nights for the display against the night sky. A Kidzone and festival traders help round out the activities.
There are other Rewind Festival locations; Rewind Festival South is the one near Henley-on-Thames. Other ones include Rewind Scotland, typically in July, and Rewind North in Cheshire, England, earlier in August than Rewind South.
More about Rewind Festival South
A staggering number of 1980s performers have appeared and continue to appear at Rewind Festival South. One of the more famous faces, Rick Astley, hails from Lancashire, and his 1987 single, "Never Gonna Give You Up," soared to the top of the charts in many countries. Another Rewind performer, Jimmy Somerville, is from Scotland and is known for hits such as "Smalltown Boy" with the band Bronski Beat. The Real Thing, Marc Almond, Lloyd Cole & The Leopards and Mari Wilson are among the many performers.
The Rewind Festival South Experience
Many festival goers bring folding chairs or blankets for comfortable seating while they listen to the music. One of the more fun aspects of the festival is that famous people are in the audience, too; it helps to look carefully at who is sitting near you! The atmosphere is relaxed, and many of the performers, including the top ones, sign autographs and will pose for selfies.
Glamping is a central activity at Rewind Festival South, and this glamorous form of camping in style is one of the best ways to experience the festival. (The tents come already set up!) Other attendees opt for straight-out camping, with the camp grounds offering showers and toilets; fans can bring camping stoves to use outside of tents. Lodging at nearby hotels is also available, and fans can moor residential and non-residential boats at certain sites.
As for food (because food is important!), festival caterers provide a wide range of goodies. Cuisine includes so-called "posh nosh" marinated chicken, lamb, flatbread and the finest sauces. There are themed bars and watering holes scattered through the grounds to hit the spot.
