Who is the Richmond Spiders’ head basketball coach?Chris Mooney has been the head coach for the men’s Richmond basketball team since 2005. Mooney started his career in 1997 as the head coach for Arcadia, a Division III team. In 2000, Mooney moved on to become the assistant coach for Air Force, moving to the associate head coach position in 2003 and then to the head coach position in 2004. It was in 2005 that Mooney transferred to the Richmond team, making him the second-longest-tenured basketball coach in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The arena was launched in 1972 with the help and generosity of the E. Claiborne Robins family. The arena cost $12 million to build. It hosted a 1992 presidential debate, a 1993 speech by former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev and an address by former President Barack Obama in 2011. The Robins Center has hosted the men’s and women’s Richmond Spiders teams for over 42 years. The arena underwent a major $17 million renovation in 2013, and hefty improvements continue to be made to the building. The arena now boasts the largest video boards in the conference. With a total capacity of 7,201, the newly renovated Robins Center carries an intimate feel while still being able to provide attendees with unsurpassed amenities and a lively game experience.
