Rodeo Austin History
Rodeo Austin's storied history of preserving western heritage started in 1938. What started as a one-day calf show has evolved into a year-long fundraising campaign for college scholarships with the rodeo capping off the event as the grand finale. Calf scrambles became a part of the event in 1949, and then the first junior rodeo comprised of riding, roping and other competitive contests, arrived in 1951. By the time the 1980s rolled in, it was clear to Rodeo Austin organizers that they needed to find a much larger home to accommodate the event, leading to the Travis County Expo becoming the host site. These days, the Rodeo Austin routinely brings together tens of thousands of people for a series of great shows that tends to have them coming back for more.
