About Ryley Walker
Born in 1989 in Rockford, IL, Walker’s career as a musician began when he moved to Chicago in the early 2000s and started to perform at colleges and underground clubs/bars.
With inspirations such as “fingerstyle masters,” John Fahey and Robbie Basho, Ryley Walker’s music has completely transformed the indie folk and blues genres. 2015 was his best year yet, including over 200 shows across the country and a European tour. Thanks to word of mouth and praise from critics such as the National Public Radio (NPR), Uncut, Paste and Consequence of Sound, Walker’s shows continued to sell out and his reputation as a true artist continues to grow. With newfound musical fans such as bass legend Danny Thompson and the iconic Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin rooting for him, Walker has outperformed original expectations and is projected to become one of the greatest indie folk performers in modern history.
Ryley Walker’s Music
Ryley Walker released his first studio album All Kinds of You in 2014 with the record label Tompkins Square. Debuting three songs that launched his international career – “Sweet Little Betsy,” “The West Wind” and “A Home For Me” – critics expressed admiration for All Kinds of You. NPR described it as a “charming swagger of jazz-folk music channeling Bert Jansch and troubadour Tim Buckley.”
His second album, recorded in 2015 by Dead Oceans, is titled Primrose Green and received a 2015 Album of the Year award. According to Pitchfork, Primrose Green showcases Walker’s “prodigious talent.” Hit songs include “Summer Dress,” “The High Road,” “On the Banks of the old Kishwaukee” and the title song.
Two more albums were released in 2015-2016, Land of Plenty and Golden Sings That Have Been Sung. Both have received critical acclaim.
