The team initially started out in New York state in Rochester County as the Rochester Seagrams led by Les Harrison, who also played for the team and organized it. The team was sponsored by Seagrams distillery. Harrison later became the team’s coach. In 1942, the team became the Rochester Eber Seagrams, and a year later, it was renamed the Rochester Pros. The team was renamed as the Rochester Royals in 1945, and a year later, the team won the NBL championship. In 1947, the Royals won the Division title. The team became part of the NBA in 1949. The team moved to Cincinnati in 1957 and was renamed the Cincinnati Royals. In 1972, the team moved to Kansas City and became the Kansas City Kings.
