San Francisco Dons Basketball TicketsDespite being a mid-sized private Jesuit school, the San Francisco Dons of the West Coast Conference will always have a place in basketball history for its legendary seasons in 1955 and 1956. These teams featured Hall of Fame coach Phil Woolpert, center Bill Russell and guards K.C. Jones and Hal Perry. Led by Russell’s back-to-back 20-point and 20-rebound per game seasons in his junior and senior years, the team amassed a record 60-game winning streak, two national championships and an undefeated season. The streak was finally snapped by No. 7 Illinois in 1957, but despite the loss, San Francisco still reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to Kansas 80-56. The Dons ended the season with a win over Michigan State in the national third-place game. Despite never winning another national championship, the program returned to the Elite Eight again in 1964, 1965, 1973 and 1974.
