Located in the heart of Screw City, this highly anticipated beer festival brings over 2,500 craft beer enthusiasts a selection of more than 130 beers. As crowds flood the streets of Rockford, Illinois, visitors from near and far mingle with more than 50 American craft breweries.
What first started in 2011 has now become a must-attend event, with Screw City Beer Festival tickets selling out year after year. As a signature event for the area, it is the perfect combination of beer, food and good vibes.
Screw City Beer Festival's history
In 2011, the owner of the Rockford's Kryptonite Bar started this festival to be, what he called, "a human experience in a glass." Although it was initially a labor of love, it has since become one of the more anticipated local events. Growing each year, this festival attracts the perfect size crowd.
Uniting lovers of beer, it is the perfect place to enjoy the fruits of the craft beer industry's labors. The name comes from the city's history, paying homage to Rockford's industrial manufacturing history. It is also a celebration of beer, which has deep historical roots in the United States, influencing modern culture.
When this festival first began, it featured around 25 breweries and more than 100 beers. Brewers traveled from Massachusetts, California, Colorado, Michigan and other states across the nation. Each year, more and more breweries have made their way to the event, supporting this annual tradition.
As the festival grew in popularity, more tickets were added to the event. In recent years, general admission tickets have sold out in less than two hours. VIP tickets are also available. VIP ticket-holders can enter the festival an hour early, try special-release brews and receive festival swag. It's all part of the experience.
The Screw City Beer Festival experience
Of course, visitors come to this festival for the beer and fun atmosphere, but they can also fill their bellies. With different food vendors setting up each year, there is an exciting mix of foods that pair perfectly with beer. Visitors enjoy anything from beer brat pretzels to grilled bacon skewers. The food is always gourmet, matching the quality of beer on tap.
While enjoying a wood-fired pizza and beer, for example, attendees also enjoy live performances by local bands. Each attendee receives a drink card, so that they can keep track of how many beers they've sampled. From larger breweries, such as Samuel Adams and Goose Island, to smaller breweries, such as Half Acre and Maplewood, everyone hangs out and supports others in the industry.
