Sechs Kies members
The original six-member group came together in 1997. Their near instant success led them to have a huge fan base, their own film and even the opportunity to perform for Present Kim Dae-jung. The group is split down the middle in two sub-units. The Black Kies are made up of Ji-won (leader, rapper, vocalist), Jae-jin (rapper, dancer), Jae-duck (rapper, dancer). The White Kies are Sung-hoon (lead vocalist), Su-won (vocalist) and Ji-yong (vocalist, rapper). Five out of six of them were on-board to reunite and continue making music as a group. Ji-yong, the only who didn’t return, left the entertainment industry after they disbanded and is now a successful business owner. Despite losing a key member to the group, the now-quintet still have all the moves and grooves that they did 16 years ago! It goes without saying, Sechs Kies is like a fine wine, they have certainly gotten better with time. Buy your Sechs Kies tickets and see for yourself firsthand!
"Infinity Challenge" Sechs Kies performance
The South Korean TV entertainment program, also known as “Infinite Challenge”, aired from 2005 until April 2018. It was often called “Korea’s real first variety show”. The episodes usually contained unscripted (and nearly impossible) challenges for their guests to perform, making it quite the comedy. Their motto was “Dirty, Dangerous, and Difficult” to assure that each episode was just as hilarious as the last. One of the program’s recurring segments was called “Saturday, Saturday's, I Am A Singer” where old musicians were invited to the show to perform together again. Some artists received such incredible feedback that they decided to reunite alltogether. This was the case for both Sechs Kies and H.O.T., another ‘original’ K-Pop group.
Other K-Pop Comebacks
While a lot of K-Pop groups disband due to military service responsibilities in South Korea in order to server their mandatory year, others breakup due to group controversies or contract disagreements. For some, this is the end of the road for them, while for others it is just a minor timeout in a long career that awaits them. Like Sechs Kies, other groups have made massive comebacks in recent years. If you like their original, authentic sound that you can still find in much of their new music than you should check out some of the other groups that formed during their time like H.O.T. or god.
