Sewell-Thomas Stadium began life as Thomas Field in 1948, named in honor of former University of Alabama head coach Frank Thomas. The original stadium had a seating capacity of 2,000. Thomas Field was renamed Sewell-Thomas Stadium in recognition of UA baseball legend, Hall of Fame member and head coach Joe Sewell, who played a total of 14 years with the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees. Affectionately known as "The Joe," Sewell-Thomas Stadium has been the home of the University of Alabama's baseball team for more than 70 years. The venue has undergone many renovations, with the most recent being a full renovation that essentially has created a new stadium. Sewell-Thomas Stadium has 12 suites, new seating, an expanded canopy overhang for the primary seating area, player amenities, a commissary, a team store, a playground, mini infield for family fun and an outfield walk connecting the concourse.
