Continue the Ring cycle with Siegfried London
Richard Wagner's epic 'Ring cycle' is surely one of the most formidable operatic works ever composed: a series of four lengthy operas, it is famous for its complexity, duration and powerful music. Following on from Die Walküre London, Siegfried London takes up the story of Siegfried, the son of incestuous lovers Siegmund and Sieglinde, who has been brought up by his guardian Mime. After escaping from certain death, Siegfried comes across Brünnhilde, daughter of the god Wotan, who has been imprisoned by fire for disobeying her father. Siegfried not only falls in love with Brünnhilde but learns how to feel fear, a concept previously alien to him. Featuring one of the greatest tenor roles of all time, Siegfried London is a magnificent production that has been updated to include a dramatic, modern set and sees an international cast take to the stage in London's Royal Opera House. While undoubtedly best seen along with the rest of the cycle, a performance of Siegfried London can also be enjoyed on its own - and, however you choose to experience it, Siegfried London tickets are available on StubHub now.
Experience epic opera Siegfried London
The composition of the opera was interrupted for seven years while Wagner concentrated on other works, including Tristan and Yseult and 'Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg' - as such, the music of Siegfried London is a little different to that of the previous Ring cycle operas. Considerably more light-hearted, it perfectly portrays Siegfried's youthful enthusiasm and naivety, as well as the first flushes of love when he meets and falls for Brünnhilde. With a relatively simple storyline and small cast, Siegfried London is still a challenge both musically and in terms of endurance: including intervals, this epic opera lasts for around six hours. First shown in London in 1882, the opera is a timeless classic by one of the most significant composers of all time - to experience it is to see the genre in a completely different light.
