Who are the Sioux Falls Stampede’s greatest rivals?The USHL’s Tier 1 Junior Hockey League has a total of eight teams in its Western Conference and another eight in its Eastern Conference. The Stampede play in the Western Conference against teams from Fargo, Des Moines, Sioux City and other areas in the region. The City of Sioux Falls had been courting the USHL since the early 1990s and finally struck a deal for a USHL franchise in 1998. Local residents submitted over 100 name suggestions, and the winning name was the Stampede. The Stampede’s first season was 1999-2000.
