SOMA is a San Diego, California, concert venue situated in the Midway neighborhood. Consisting of a main stage and a smaller, sidestage venue, SOMA claims the honor of being a leading site for alternative rock and punk. Bands like Rocket From the Crypt and Blink 182 once graced the stage at SOMA. The venue has also showcased well-established international headliners, such as As I Lay Dying, Switchfoot and the Dave Matthews Band. SOMA moved several times over the years, opening on Union Street in 1990 as a dance club and slowly transitioning into a destination for live music. The venue moved in 1994 and again in 2002. At each location, the downstairs stage/sidestage (aka the "Dungeon") continued to be a proving ground for bands seeking to strengthen local bonds, such as The Smashing Pumpkins and The Ramones. The total capacity of SOMA seating is 3,950. The mainstage accommodates up to 2,300 for a full house (or 1,150 for half-house setups) and 500 for the sidestage. SOMA reserves the sidestage for up-and-coming acts who are still building up a following and/or seeking to open for a nationally touring act.

What is the parking situation at SOMA events?

Free parking is located in the lot on the north side of the venue. There's additional free parking in front of the actual SOMA building, in the strip mall parking spaces. SOMA is situated in a fairly lively neighborhood, so you may have to seek parking elsewhere on nights when major acts are playing. Further up Sports Arena Boulevard, the Valley View Casino & Hotel offers parking at varying fees. SOMA discourages loitering in the parking lots and prefers that you proceed in a timely manner to and from the venue.

Is there an age minimum to get SOMA tickets?

SOMA does not impose an age minimum for entry. On any given night, audience members range from 13 to 25 years of age. SOMA does not serve alcohol regularly although the serving of beer is possible on very special occasions.

Can you bring cameras to SOMA performances?

No, you cannot. SOMA prohibits the use of cameras, video recorders and audio recording devices on the premises. You also cannot bring in beverages, food, drugs, weapons, pens or markers of any kind.

What is the dress code for SOMA events?

The dress code for SOMA concerts is casual. You can come as you are, but your clothing cannot be gang-affiliated. SOMA is also anti-gang tattoos. If you have any such tattoos, cover them up before arriving at the club.
