About Something Rotten!
Something Rotten! brings one of Broadway’s hottest shows to the Austin stage in the “funniest, splashiest musical comedy in at least 400 years,” according to TimeOut New York. This musical delivers nonstop laughs in a parody of classic Broadway musicals and all things Shakespearean. It has wit, high- and lowbrow humor and hilarious musical numbers sure to provide an unforgettable experience. The show boasts Tony Award nominations and rave reviews as it continues to enjoy box office success on its U.S. tour.
Nigel and Nick Bottom despise their rival William Shakespeare. As 16th-century Elizabethan playwrights in London, it infuriates them how he is able to write one hit play after another while they cannot write one. Wishing to get an edge, they seek a fortune-teller for guidance. According to the seer, the future of the stage is a form that combines acting, singing and dancing – the musical! They apply their skills and secret knowledge only to write another flop. Their desperation increases and they alienate nearly everyone in an all-out effort to beat the Bard. Hilarity follows as their outlook dims in this wild ride of musical comedy.
