Something Rotten! is an original musical tale of two Renaissance-age playwrights and brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, who long to escape from the shadows of their more popular and successful contemporary William Shakespeare. After receiving a premonition about the future of theater, the brothers devise a plan to create the world’s first musical to finally upstage their more well-known rival. If you are in the San Francisco area, then you can finally experience the comedy event live on stage.Welcome to the Renaissance
Something Rotten! began as a simple premise developed by the brothers Wayne Kirkpatrick — a Nashville-based songwriter for Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Bonnie Raitt and Little Big Town — and Karey Kirkpatrick — a screenwriter from Los Angeles who has contributed to James and the Giant Peach, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Chicken Run. After kicking around the idea for 15 years, the brothers finally pitched the idea to producer Kevin McCollum around 2011. He put them in touch with Tony-winning director Casey Nicholaw, who was then helming the immensely popular musical The Book of Mormon. The brothers also collaborated with novelist and screenwriter John O’Farrell on the script. After several more years of production, Something Rotten! made its worldwide debut at Broadway’s St. James Theatre on April 22nd, 2015 with a cast of Brian d’Arcy James, John Cariani, Christian Borle and Heidi Blickenstaff. A success with audiences and critics alike, the musical ran for 708 performances until finally closing on January 1st, 2017. Something Rotten! received 12 nominations from the Outer Critics Circle Award, three nominations from the Drama League Awards and nine nominations (including a single win) from the Drama Desk Awards. It also received 10 nominations from the 2015 Tony Awards. Christian Borle took home the sole win for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.Where can I buy Something Rotten San Francisco tickets?
