About Something Rotten!
Something Rotten! promises to bring unparalleled hilarity to the Schenectady stage in a show TimeOut New York declares to be “Broadway’s funniest, splashiest musical comedy in at least 400 years!” The musical intelligently spoofs all things Shakespearean and mercilessly parodies Broadway musicals with wit and both high- and low-brow humor. Rollicking song-and-dance numbers and a compellingly hilarious storyline combine to create an unforgettable Broadway comedy. This Tony Award-nominated show remains a popular hit and continues to receive rave reviews since its premiere in 2015.
Nick and Nigel Bottom are brothers and playwrights who despise Shakespeare. While they can’t seem to write one hit play, the Bard generates hit after hit and struts around like a 16th-century rock star. Determined to outshine him, the brothers seek the guidance of a fortuneteller, who tells them the future of the stage includes singing, dancing and acting combined into a new and revolutionary art form – the musical! Together, they set out to write the first musical but get a cool reception when bouncy song-and-dance numbers don’t improve their subject – the plague. Desperation sets in and the brothers look for a way to succeed. In the process, they run afoul of nearly everyone. This production delivers joke after joke in new, inventive and musical ways!

Something Rotten Trivia
Something Rotten! producer Kevin McCollum decided to skip the pre-Broadway showing in Seattle, planned for April 2015, opting to go all-in and open on Broadway when a theater became available. Dozens of rave reviews and a full U.S. tour schedule later proved his instincts were right.
