Whether they're blowing up the biggest musical halls or playing to sold out shows in amphitheaters across the country, Staind always delivers an action packed musical performance that is visceral in its emotion and precise in its delivery.
Hailing from Springfield, Massachusetts, Staind was formed as a hobby group that was mostly into covering some of the band member's favorite and most respected artists - including Rage Against the Machine, Tool, and Pearl Jam. The band would soon strike out on their own, writing material that was both respectful of their favorite musicians but at the same time unique and trail blazing. After their self released debut, it wouldn't be long before people started paying attention to this up and coming music sensation. They would get their first big break while opening for 90s rock sensation Limp Bizkit, soon winning the admiration of the band's frontman Fred Durst and a first class ticket to mainstream metal success.
The band soon signed its first major record deal with Flip Records, and the band's friendship with Fred Durst led to him producing on their sophomore release. The album would be a huge success, and the band immediately embarked on a nation spanning tour, once again with Limp Bizkit as well as other major acts such as The Crystal Method and Sevendust. The band was firing on all cylinders with a hectic tour schedule, constant songwriting, and a breakout into the far corners of mainstream media, including appearances on television's WWE Raw and at major festivals and venues all across the globe.
2005 would be another hit year for Staind as they released yet another commercial mega hit album and continued to invade the airwaves, from constant radio play to special appearances on Fuse TV and The Howard Stern Show. The band soon hit the road again, alongside San Diego rockers P.O.D., female fronted Flyleaf, and rockers of a century Nickelback. Nine years later, Staind is still at the top of their game, pioneering new directions in the alternative metal scene and sitting securely upon their throne as alt metal champions of the last decade.
The band's big breakout would be their 1999 release Dysfunction, which would immediately catapult them to the highest echelons of success as the album immediately went certified double platinum and climbed to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. The album spawned four hit singles, including "Suffocate", "Just Go", "Mudshovel" and "Home". The album would be one of the most successful breakout debuts in the history of music and remains as one of the hallmarks of the alt metal movement.
Their much anticipated follow up Break the Cycle was yet another mega hit, garnering quintuple platinum certification and lighting up charts across the board. The album would hit the number one spot on the US' Billboard 200, in New Zealand, and in the UK, and would also hit the top 100 in nearly a dozen other countries. The album would be carried by a series of huge hits, including "It's Been Awhile", which would be certified gold and top charts on the US Alternative and US Mainstream Rock Billboards. Other hits include "Outside", "Fade", and crowd favorite "For You" which have become canon at all of Staind's live performances.
When Fred Durst initially interacted with Staind, he tried to throw them off of his nationwide tour because of the indecency of their album artwork. Once he saw them perform live, Fred became an instant fan and a huge supporter of the band, propelling them to their early success.
