An Australian singer and songwriter, Starley is perhaps best known by music fans for her hugely successful debut single, “Call on Me”. Born in 1987, Starley is originally from the city of Sydney. She developed an interest in music from an early age before deciding, in her twenties, that electropop was the chosen genre for her. Although she was raised in New South Wales, the singer decided to relocate to the UK for a time. She spent a while in London, attempting to get her musical career off the ground, before an opportunity opened up for her back in Australia. Having returned to Sydney, Starley went on to be signed by the label Tinted Records, who put out her first single to widespread acclaim and commercial success.
Starley's career in music
It was in 2016 that Starley first came to the public's attention as a recording artist. In April of that year, she featured on a single by the name of “Into You”. This song was a release of Odd Mob, a duo made up of Robbie Jacobs and Harry Hope that has been producing pop music in Australia since 2013. Their previous biggest hit in the country had been “Is it a Banger?”, which got into the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2014. Having made use of Starley's clear and soulful vocals on “Into You”, Odd Mob went on to achieve their greatest success up to that point. The song went on to gain the top spot in the ARIA Club Tracks chart. It would maintain that high point for no less than seven consecutive weeks. “Into You” was put out by Tinted Records, Starley's label.
Following up on the commercial success of “Into You”, the team at Tinted Records pushed for an early release of a solo recording from their singing sensation. Starley did not let her record company down. “Call on Me” hit the shelves in July 2016 and would go on to be re-released by Epic Records in October of that year, such was the demand for sales of the single. By the time it had subsided in popularity, the record had gained treble platinum status in Australia. It was a number eight hit in that country, as well as selling extremely well in New Zealand, Denmark and the Republic of Ireland. Starley's debut track reached the top spot in Sweden and got to a creditable sixth place in the UK singles chart.
In 2017, Starley's long-awaited second solo single came out. Written by a team of songwriters that included Amel Larieux and Bryce Wilson, both former members of Groove Theory, the song was called “Touch Me”. Many music critics noted the songs rhythmic qualities were similar to a 1995 hit of Groove Theory's, “Tell Me”. The track reached number 65 in the official Australian charts.
