Story of the Year Background
Story of the Year's origins date back to 1995, when the band first formed in St. Louis, Missouri. The band currently consists of Dan Marsala, Ryan Phillips, Philip Sneed, and Josh Wills, with only a few lineup changes in the band's history, such as the replacement of Adam Russell, the band's longtime bass player that retired from the group in 2014. Initially, this alternative rock group formed under the name Big Blue Monkey, but they discovered shortly afterward that there had already been another musical group with that same name. After the band released their debut EP, Story of the Year, they decided to completely change their name to Story of the Year, and have recorded and performed under the name ever since.
In 2002, Story of the Year signed with Maverick Records, after honing their performing skills as a local band for seven years. By the time they had secured a record deal, Story of the Year was ready for the big time. The band released their debut album, Page Avenue, in 2003, and it scored massive radio play thanks to hits like "Anthem of Our Dying Day" and "Until the Day I Die". With just one full-length album under their belt, Story of the Year had suddenly become one of the most talked about bands in the alternative rock world, and fans flocked to their concerts no matter where they were performing. In 2005, the band followed up their debut album with Live in Lou/Bassassins, which featured live performances, compilation tracks, and footage from tours on the album. This album was quickly certified gold by the RIAA, which was just one hint that Story of the Year had become a smash success.
For the next several years, Story of the Year went on numerous worldwide tours and churned out countless more hits, solidifying their reputation as one of the most beloved bands in alternative rock. In 2011, Story of the Year went on a three-year hiatus, but now they are back in action and you could catch them at one of their upcoming shows!
