Sublime is a name that resonates with many fans across the hip-hop, punk, ska and even reggae genre. Coming out of Long Beach, California, they initially found local fame before reaching international stardom. Their unique sound and signature lyrics drew crowds in, especially within the beach and coastal regions of Southern California.
As the years passed following the frontman's death, Sublime LBC continues to be immensely popular, as their songs still top annual charts. With over 17 million units sold worldwide, Sublime is undoubtedly one of the most successful and influential ska-punk bands of all time.
Sublime LBC's background
Although sublime's history is full of sadness due to the untimely death of their frontman, Bradley Nowell, their level of continued success and the legacy they created is rarely matched within the music industry. After forming a three-piece band in 1988, they began their journey as one of the most influential American ska-punk bands.
With deep roots in both ska and reggae, their first gig was in a small club located in Long Beach, California. Struggling to find venues to book them because of their unusual sound, they created their own label -- which would later sign bands like Slightly Stoopid and Pepper.
In 1992 they released 40 oz. to Freedom, which peaked at No. 15 on the Heatseekers chart. Featuring an impressive 23 tracks, some of the most popular songs included "Badfish," "KRS-One" and "What Happened."
Robbin' the Hood was later released in 1995, offering up the tracks, "Pool Shark" and "I Saw Red." In 1996, they began recording their third album, Sublime, which they completed before Nowell died of a heroin overdose. Their self-titled album was certified 6x multi-platinum, earning them worldwide fame.
After Nowell's death, numerous albums were released using remixes and unheard tracks. In 2009, the remaining band members reformed the band with Rome Ramirez, changing their name to Sublime with Rome. Sharing the stage with artists like Cypress Hill, they continued to draw large crowds and keep the memory of Sublime alive.
Sublime LBC's transformation
Sublime with Rome continues to celebrate the sound of Sublime LBC while focusing on their own accomplishments. In 2011, they released Yours Truly, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart followed by Sirens in 2015, which also peaked at No. 3.
They have embarked on numerous note-worthy tours, sharing the stage with The Offspring and Pepper. Their Sublime with Rome Summer Tour in 2016 allowed them to play in 29 North American cities and opening with one show in Misawa, Japan.
