Heaven knows she's a legend
Donna Summer first sang in front of an audience at the age of ten, when one of the local church's singers failed to show up. Donna took her chance and never looked back! Influenced and inspired by the counterculture of the 1960s, Summer fronted a psychedelic rock band called Black Crow during her early years in New York City. The band dissolved after a label passed on signing them as it was only interested in its lead singer. Later, Summer landed a role in the musical Hair, which took her to Munich, Germany, where she met Italian producer Giorgio Moroder and English songwriter Pete Bellotte, who went on to play a huge role in her future success. In fact, so much so that they both feature in the musical, played by Mackenzie Bell and Kaye Tuckerman respectively. Summer moved back to the United States in 1975 and her dominance over the disco scene began. After her death in 2012, Donna Summer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is widely recognised as one of the most successful artists of all time, with over 230 million reported record sales worldwide.
