About Summer Walker

Summer Walker grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where she taught herself guitar by watching YouTube tutorials and began posting covers online. Before music, she ran a small cleaning business, but her raw vocal talent caught the attention of Love Renaissance (LVRN), an Atlanta-based label and imprint of Interscope Records, after she was discovered on Vine in 2017. Her debut commercial mixtape, Last Day of Summer, arrived in October 2018 with themes of love, doubt, and womanhood that immediately resonated with R&B listeners.

The mixtape's lead single, "Girls Need Love," took off after a remix featuring Drake gave Walker her first Billboard Hot 100 entry. Apple Music named her its first Up Next artist of 2019, and her debut studio album, Over It, followed that same year. Over It peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 134,000 first-week units, briefly setting the record for the largest streaming debut week for a female R&B artist. The album topped the R&B Albums chart for 14 nonconsecutive weeks and earned triple platinum certification from the RIAA.

Walker's second album, Still Over It, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2021 with over 166,000 first-week units. It broke the Apple Music record for most album streams in a single day by a female artist and matched Taylor Swift as the only female act to place 18 concurrent songs from one album on the Billboard Hot 100. Her third album, Finally Over It, arrived in November 2025. With over 53.5 million RIAA-certified units sold across albums and singles, Walker has established herself as one of the defining R&B voices of her generation. Her sound draws from influences like Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and D'Angelo, blending contemporary R&B with neo soul textures built on vulnerability and personal storytelling.
