The Syracuse Orange Lacrosse team is a Division I program that competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The storied lacrosse program at Syracuse played their first game in 1916 and were the winners of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse League champions four out of the six seasons beginning in 1920 and ending in 1925. The Syracuse Orange Lacrosse Team remained independent before joining the Big East Conference in 2010. The team switched its affiliation to the ACC in 2014. Syracuse was invited to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 1979 and first won the tournament in 1983. The 11 total NCAA Tournament championships won by the Syracuse Orange is more than any other team has won in the modern NCAA era. The last championship won by the Orange was in 2009. Trimboli is a team captain in 2020 and was named the Primetime Lacrosse Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse magazine following an early-season performance against Army. John Desko took over as head coach of the Syracuse Orange Lacrosse team in 1999. Within a decade, Desko had led his team to five NCAA Championships. Desko has been recognized with the USILA Coach of the Year award in 2008 and was the Coach of the Year honoree for the Big East in 2011. He was also named the FieldTurf Division I Coach of the Year in 2013. Ryan Powell's first year as a member of the Syracuse Orange Lacrosse team was the 1997 season. By the time he was finished in 2000, Powell was a four-time All-American selection and a main contributor to the championship the team won in 2000. The 96 points Powell scored in 2000 is the second-most for an Orange player in school history. His 287 career points are tied for second all-time at Syracuse with his brother, Casey. The only person to score more points in a career as a Syracuse lacrosse player is the third of the Powell brothers to play at the school, Mike, who tallied 307 points.
