Tampa Bay Rowdies TicketsThe Tampa Bay Rowdies is one of the first professional soccer clubs to ever play in the state of Florida. Founded in 1974, the Rowdies fielded both indoor and outdoor soccer clubs as part of the North American Soccer League. The club had plenty of success on the pitch. Led by South African Mike Connell, the Rowdies beat the Portland Timbers 2-0 to capture the outdoor 1975 championship in its inaugural season. It also went on to finish as the runner-up in 1978 and 1979. Tampa Bay survived the dissolution of the NASL in 1984 and continued to play both indoor and outdoor soccer until it finally folded in 1993. A new ownership group revived the Rowdies in 2008 as a member of the new NASL. Tampa Bay found immediate success on the pitch by winning the 2012 championship over the Minnesota Stars on penalty kicks. In 2017, Tampa Bay joined the USL, which is the next tier of American soccer below the MLS. You can experience an exciting match by purchasing Tampa Bay Rowdies tickets at StubHub.
What was Tampa Bay’s record last season? In 2019, the Tampa Bay Rowdies earned 58 points in the Western Conference with a record of 16-8-10. As the fifth seed in the playoffs, Tampa Bay lost to the fourth seed and eventual USL runner-up Louisville City FC by a score of 2-1. Magnus Rasmussen scored back-to-back goals in the 23rd and 24th minutes to pull Louisville City ahead. Tampa Bay tried to mount a comeback in the 80th minute with a goal by Sebastian Guenzatti, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
What are some of the most important games of the upcoming season? The 2020 regular season will begin on March 7th with an away game against New York Red Bulls II and conclude on October 17th with a home game against the Birmingham Legion FC. Tampa Bay will play Miami FC three times during the season — twice at Miami on March 13th and April 11th and once at home on August 8th. The club will also host Louisville City FC on August 29th in a rematch of the 2019 first-round playoff game. Other important home games include North Carolina FC on March 21th, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on March 27th and Indy Eleven on August 15th. Tampa Bay is also scheduled to play in the second round of the US Open Cup tournament on April 7th against the winner of The Villages SC and South Georgia Tormenta FC matchup.
Who is the club’s head coach?Neill Collins was hired by the Rowdies on May 18, 2018 in his first ever head coaching job. Before he was a coach, Collins had made 598 match appearances over an 18-year career. He played for 10 clubs, including Sunderland, Wolverhamptom and Leeds United. His final stop was with the Rowdies between 2016 and 2018.
Does Tampa Bay have a rival? The Tampa Bay Rowdies and Fort Lauderdale Strikers previously held a rivalry known as the Coastal Cup. The rivalry dates back to the late 1970s, when both clubs were part of the old NASL. The rivalry continued after the teams were revived in the new NASL. The clubs have not played each other in the regular season since Tampa Bay joined the USL. However, a second Florida club, Miami FC, will join the USL Championship in 2020, perhaps kindling a new intrastate rivalry.
What is a home game like? All home games take place at the 7,227-seat Al Lang Stadium. Located along the St. Petersburg waterfront, the stadium is easily accessible by the Downtown Looper trolley. Ralph’s Mob is the name of the primary Rowdies support group. Members of the group wear team colors, wave flags, participate in chants and have their own designated section.
