The Texas Longhorns women's basketball team is a Division I program that competes in the South Division of the NCAA's Big 12 Conference. The storied history of the Lady Longhorns includes 31 years of legendary Head Coach Jody Conradt as the woman in charge. Conradt coached the Lady Longhorns from 1976 to 2007 and amassed over 900 coaching victories. The women's basketball team at UT has earned its way to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament 15 of the 32 times it was invited to play in the tournament. The team has played in the Elite 8 round of the playoffs nine times and appeared in the Final Four on three occasions. The Lady Longhorns won their only national championship in 1986. Clarissa Davis is set to become the second Lady Longhorn to have her jersey number retired. The ceremony for the jersey retirement will take place before the team's March 8 game against the Lady Cowboys of Oklahoma State. Davis starred for the Lady Longhorns from 1985-1989 and led the team to a 124-10 record over that time. Davis was also the National Player of the Year in 1987 and 1989. The Lady Longhorns won conference championships each of the four years Clarissa Davis was a member of the team. Davis also led the team to a national championship in 1986. Kamie Ethridge was a teammate of Clarissa Davis on the Lady Longhorn team that became the first undefeated NCAA women's basketball champion in history. Ethridge also won National Player of the Year honors for the 1986 season.
