In 2018, Adrian Beltre became the all-time leader in extra base hits by a third baseman (1,120), surpassing Hall of Famer George Brett. But the longtime fan favorite and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner announced his retirement following the season, and Chris Woodward's squad is now turning its collective eye toward the development of the franchise's next superstar. Among the top prospects working their way toward a spot on the big-league roster are Leody Taveras, Julio Pablo Martinez, Cole Winn and Hans Crouse.
Texas Rangers History
The Texas Rangers were originally founded as the Washington Senators in 1961, relocating to Arlington, Texas, in 1972. The Franchise has made eight appearances in the MLB postseason, seven following division championships in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2016, and as a Wild Card team in 2012. Texas advanced past the ALDS for the first time in 2010, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays. The team then brought home its first American League pennant, beating the New York Yankees in six games. In the 2010 World Series, the franchise's first, the Rangers fell to the San Francisco Giants in five games. They repeated as AL champs the following year, then lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. Among the superstars to play for the Rangers over the years are Nolan Ryan, Raphael Palmeiro, Ferguson Jenkins, Ruben Sierra, Juan Gonzalez, Alex Rodriguez, Adrián Beltré and newly inducted Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez.
Texas Rangers Greatest Moments
The late-’90s was one of the most productive stretches in the history of the franchise, as that was when the Rangers had one of their most dynamic rosters of all-time, including Juan Gonzalez, Will Clark, Mark McLemore and Ivan Rodriguez. After Gonzalez was named the MVP in 1996 and 1998, superstar catcher Rodriguez won the MVP in 1999 and the Rangers walked away with three AL West titles over that span.
