The American Express Tickets
The American Express tickets
The American Express is an early season event on the PGA Tour with a long and storied history. Previously known as the Bob Hope Desert Classic, the event draws many of the top PGA golfers to its courses in La Quinta and Palm Desert, California, every January.
The American Express background
Tickets to see this golf event enable spectators to watch golf on three different courses. The American Express is one of few PGA Tour events that's played on multiple courses. Each one of the three courses presents a different challenge for golfers. The main course is the PGA West Stadium Course, which was designed by Pete Dye. The other two courses are the Nicklaus Tournament Course and La Quinta Country Club. Fans who buy tickets for this tournament can see some of the PGA Tours best compete as previous winners include Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed and Phil Mickelson.
More about The American Express
Besides the three courses, there are several unique aspects about this tournament that make it more entertaining for fans. This tournament has a 54-hole cut instead of the usual 36, which allows fans to see more golf over the first three days of the tournament. The American Express also features a pro-am competition that entertains spectators. President Dwight Eisenhower competed in the tournament when he was in office, becoming the first U.S. President to ever play in a golf tournament. In 1995, President Bill Clinton teamed up with two former presidents and Bob Hope to play a round at the tournament. Every year, spectators can be assured of seeing famous celebrities teeing it up in the desert.
The American Express experience
Since all of the courses are par-72 no matter their distance, fans can watch some of the big hitters on the PGA Tour do their thing. If birdies equal excitement, then plays at The American Express mean some exciting golf. Even after the tournament was shortened to 72 holes in 2012, there has never been a winning score higher than 20-under par. In other words, golfers have to bring their best game to California because one mistake can cost a golfer a chance at the top prize. The best golfer to ever play this event was Arnold Palmer, who won five events. No other golfer has ever won this tournament more than twice.
