The Band A New Musical Manchester Tickets
The Band at Manchester Opera House
The Band is a new musical coming to The Manchester Opera House as part of its debut tour. It was written by Tim Firth, who co-wrote the script for the film, Calendar Girls. His other stage credits include The Girls, which had a recent West End run. The Band features music by the 1990s pop group, Take That. Fans of the BBC Show Let It Shine, which aired in early 2017, will be excited to see the winners of the competition show in their roles as "The Band," when this production hits the stage.
While much of the plot of The Band has been kept secret by the producers, what we do know is that fans of 90s brit-pop are in for a real treat. Take That was a wildly popular singing group in the UK, and internationally, for much of the 90s. The group's vocals and choreography, along with the devotion they conjured from (especially female) fans, lead the way for the wave of British and American boy bands that would follow. The group had a number of hit singles, including 12 songs that reached number one on the UK charts, and seven No. 1 albums. Take That also launched the career of crooner Robbie Williams, a fresh-faced teen who had the reputation for being the group's bad boy. Williams left the group at the height of its popularity in 1995. Through numerous breakups and reunions, a documentary and a greatest hits album, Take That has maintained its cult following. The band currently consists of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen.
Let It Shine
The catchy pop choruses and power-ballads Take That sang will surely be electric on the stage. The band Five by Five, who won the competition show Let It Shine, will play the band, although their specific roles weren't decided on the show. The requirements weren't that the group members look like Take That, but rather that they display the "charisma, talent, energy, collective appeal and complementary skills, and have the stamina to play the part of a boy band in a professional touring production in 2017."
Girls Night Out
Whether or not you watched Let It Shine, and really whether or not you ever liked Take That in their heyday, this show will not disappoint. The songs are catchy, the choreography is exciting and it's the perfect excuse to spend a night at the theater. If you were a fan of Take That, well then, you surely need no convincing!
