The Bardy Bunch
Ever wondered what would happen if Marcia Brady and Keith Partridge got together? If Shakespeare wrote the script, their relationship would most likely suffer deadly intrigue and campy repartee. This plot is just what patrons can expect from The Bardy Bunch: The War of the Families Partridge and Brady. This musical comedy at Chicago’s Mercury Theater gives classic 1970s sitcom characters classical dialogue from the Bard.
Written by Stephen Garvey, The Bardy Bunch features favorite members of the Partridge and Brady families singing familiar songs like “I Think I Love You” and “It’s a Sunshine Day” against a backdrop of Shakespearean storylines ripped from the pages of Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing.
The Story of The Bardy Bunch
It is the summer of 1974, and the casts of both The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch are out of jobs due to the cancellation of both shows. Left to their own devices, they embark upon their own special episode. What happens next is a series of Shakespearean episodes of passion, vengeance and murderous rage that blend classic television with the classic theater to create a couple of hours of class-act entertainment.
The Bardy Bunch made its debut at the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival and won an Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Ensemble. It then moved to the Theatre at St. Clement’s for a brief 2014 Off-Broadway run. Broadway’s Supper Club 54 Below adapted the show for a 2015 cabaret version, which enjoyed encore performances.
