About The Bodyguard
The Bodyguard is a romantic thriller that captures the hearts of audiences with music and intrigue. Based on the 1992 Oscar-nominated film of the same name, the musical tells the unlikely love story of bodyguard Frank Farmer and pop star Rachel Marron—sharpened by a mysterious stalker who threatens Rachel’s. Former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer is hired as the bodyguard to protect her.
The musical remains true to the original screenplay; tension builds as Rachel and Frank each expect to give the other orders, but neither expects to fall in love. The Bodyguard originally opened in London’s West End as an instant hit with rave reviews. The original screenplay for The Bodyguard was written by Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back) in the 1970s, with Diana Ross as the choice for the lead female role of pop star Rachel Marron.
The musical features a song written in 1860. The Christian hymn “Jesus Loves Me” first debuted as lyrics of a poem with music added several years later.
