Atheists Meet God in a Hilarious Way in The Book of MormonParker, Lopez and Stone all admit that they are atheists, but even the Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints is loving the brand of humor created by the former writers of South Park and Avenue Q. The trio told The New York Times that they believe the Bible is just a story, like Superman and Star Wars are just stories. After withholding initial comment, the Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints went on to buy advertising space in later programs. The New York Times quotes Parker as saying, "Star Wars was our religion, and Spider-Man’s a religion. That affected our lives way more than Jesus, but they were still stories." Stone picked up the theme by saying, "Do goofy stories make people nice? What if, in their goofiness, these stories somehow inspire that in the right way. Is that a social good?" That seems to be the whole point of this hilarious musical that has left people rolling in laughter in the aisles around the globe, but after the performance, many may be moved to question what is true in life.
