Dotha Bushnell Hillyer built The Bushnell in order to honor her father's legacy and memory and give her beloved Hartford, Connecticut a world-class performing space of its own. Designed with a Georgian Revival exterior and an Art Deco interior, The Bushnell was completed in 1930. The Bushnell boasts the largest hand-painted ceiling mural of its kind, which is suspended the roof by steel supports. It also has a custom organ built by the Austin Organ Company.
