The Carpenters Story UK Tour Tickets
An award-winning show, the Carpenters Story celebrates the music and lives of one of the most successful and best-loved popular music duos of the 20th century. Featuring many of the hit tracks that made Richard and Karen Carpenter household names, the show has been running since it was first conceived in 1992.
Much of the success of the Carpenters Story Tour in the UK has been due to the vocal talents of one of its stars, Claire Furley. In the eyes of many music critics, Furley's singing is unsurpassed by other tribute performers, due to the uncanny representation she is able to give of Karen Carpenter. Furley's vocal harmonisations, added to the state-of-the art video show that immerses audience members in the Carpenters' era, help to evoke the heyday of the brother and sister act. Along with lavish musical arrangements that have been lovingly put together from the original recordings, the Carpenters Story Tour offers UK audiences the length and breadth of the country the chance to enjoy a unique musical journey.
The Carpenters Story's debut performance
The brainchild of Phil Aldridge, who went on to form another tribute show – the Illegal Eagles – in 1997, the Carpenters Story began as a one-off audition for a large booking agency in the UK. Aldridge's idea was to put together a show that featured the Carpenters' songbook as its mainstay. Unlike other auditionees, Aldridge's arrangements required a larger than usual band, including an oboist, violinists, a saxophone player and a clarinettist. This singled them out from the crowd, but the 20-minute audition really came down to the singer's quality. Having auditioned Furley in Southend earlier, Aldridge already knew he had found the right vocalist. As a result of that early audition, the Carpenters Story was immediately booked on a 34-date tour of the country. The show opened to a sell-out event at London's large and prestigious Palladium, featuring an expanded orchestra, in 1992. Because of the show's immediate success, further dates were added and all of them sold out.
The Carpenters Story's continuing success
Following the initial tour in the early 1990s, the Carpenters Story has performed many tours across England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The show has been exported to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore as well. Indeed, Furley and the rest of the ensemble have also notched up performances in 22 venues across the whole of New Zealand. The show has been praised for its musical accuracy by none other than Richard Carpenter, the surviving member of the original band.
