The Chapel - San Francisco's Most Unique Music Venue
The Chapel in San Francisco's Mission District is a live music venue that takes "cool" to a whole new level. It's a comfortably intimate space where you can experience your favorite bands and discover new ones.
The Chapel History
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to have a nightclub in a chapel, you have come to the right place! The Chapel nightclub was born in a 1914 building that once was a mortuary. The mortuary's chapel has been converted into a stunning, new two-level music venue with some of the best acoustics around. Just the 40-foot arched ceilings would be enough to get anyone's attention, but the entire building is a treasure. In addition to the music space, the renovated building now holds a neighborhood bar, restaurant and outdoor dining patio. The vibe is decidedly cool, and its success comes from a combination of booking a wide array of live entertainment and the intimate setting in which the bands play.
The Chapel Events
Live musical acts are the primary focus for The Chapel. The "all ages" dance and music nightclub draws in solo acts, as well as bigger bands on national tours. However, they are becoming almost as well known for "The Vestry" as they are for their fantastic shows. This restaurant serves up French and Mediterranean cuisine using seasonal and local ingredients. The Chapel has also worked hard to create an additional neighborhood bar venue within the space. Here you can enjoy socializing throughout the night, and the special "The Sinner's Hour" happy hour has become a local favorite. The Chapel has also turned into a "go-to" spot for tech conferences, private events, beer and wine tastings, and even mini-music fundraising festivals. Public events sell out quickly, so be sure to pick up your show tickets as soon as you can!
The Chapel Layout
The two-level music and dance space can accommodate up to 600 people and is graced with soaring, arched ceilings that never fail to make an impression. The room often gets additional kudos for providing an intimate feel to the concert experience without ever feeling cramped. Many people gravitate toward the mezzanine level, where the views are excellent, and the upstairs bar is outfitted with comfortable furniture just perfect for a laid back experience. The restaurant, bar and dining patio are all on the lower level.
San Francisco, California
San Francisco is one of the most visited cities in the world. Whether you are into the arts, are a foodie or just love a fantastic sunset, San Francisco has something for you. Spend a quiet day picnicking in Presidio Park or explore Golden Gate Park (and don't forget your camera). Architecture buffs love investigating the Victorian mansions along the crooked Lombard Street. A trip to Fisherman's Wharf is a "must," as is a journey to enjoy events out on Alcatraz Island. Of course, sports fans have an array of options, from seeing the San Francisco Giants play at AT&T Park to seeing the 49ers, the Oakland A's and the Golden State Warriors during their seasons.
The Chapel has received kudos for its zany non-religious gospel brunch, complete with killer choir, acrobats and decadent cuisine.
