The Coral: back with new music in 2018
Back at the turn of the millennium, Merseyside quintet The Coral wowed the world with their self-titled UK number five debut album and anthem "Dreaming of You", which found a place in many people's hearts as one of the best modern-day indie pop classics. The album would be the beginning of a run of five consecutive top 10 albums, with second record Magic and Medicine topping the charts in 2003. The band took a breather after six albums in eight years, but returning in 2014 with The Curse of Love before top 20 record Distance Inbetween landed two years later.
The Mercury Prize nominated group now boasts a new addition to the line-up, courtesy of former The Zutons guitarist Paul Molloy, with 2018 record Move Through The Dawn released in August 2018. The Coral: prolific chart mainstays
Initially known as The Hive, The Coral band members were old school friends who teamed up in 1996 to start making music. The original line-up consisted of brothers James and Ian Skelly - frontman and drummer respectively - along with guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones and Lee Southall on rhythm guitar. Their eponymously titled debut LP, buoyed by the success of singles "Goodbye" and "Dreaming of You" sent shock waves across the UK; charting in the top five and earning a Mercury Prize nomination.
Sophomore album Magic and Medicine was a hugely successful follow-up, reaching the number one spot and containing the hit single "Pass it On". Third record Invisible Invasion saw the departure of guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones, but the enormous success of the record's lead single "In The Morning" led to the group heading off on tour with the Arctic Monkeys. However, after 2010's Butterfly House, the boys retreated from the limelight - although material a few years old was released in 2014 in the folk-infused The Curse of Love. Returning in 2018 with Move Through The Dawn don't miss your chance to see them live when they next tour the UK: buy The Coral tickets now at StubHub.
