The award-winning play adapted from Mark Haddon’s novel of the same name tells the story of the young and troubled math genius Christopher John Francis Boone. A brilliant fifteen-year-old, he views himself as a detective comparing himself to Sherlock Holmes. Yet, in spite of his genius, he struggles to understand everyday life and those around him.
He becomes a suspect when the neighbor’s dog is murdered. Determined to clear his name, he sets out to find out who did it. As he asks questions, he finds all the neighbor’s resist his inquiries. Even his father avoids his questions. Despite his struggles, he stays on the case. When he discovers the truth, he fears he might be next. He flees.
He goes to live with his mother. His journey proves full of difficulty. Finally, he finds his mother. Happy to see him, she helps him understand he must return to his father so he can continue his education and pursue the future he had planned for himself. With trepidation, he heads home to face what awaits him.
