The Internet Tickets
The Internet TicketsFormed in 2011 and hailing from Los Angeles, CA, The Internet is an American band best known for fusing elements of R&B, jazz, funk, hip hop, and EDM. Consisting of vocalist Syd, bassist Patrick Paige III, keyboardist Matt Martians, guitarist Steve Lacy and drummer Christopher Smith, the band has released three EP's, Purple Naked Ladies, Black and Blue Point Two, and Ego Death as well as four studio albums, including Feel Good and Hive Mind. Its 2015 album, carrying the same name as the EP Ego Death is considered its breakthrough album and contains such hits as "Under Control" and "Girl," both of which peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Adult R&B chart. The group credits The Neptunes and Timbaland as major influences to its musical artistry.
From Odd Future to The InternetSyd and Matt Martians were originally members of the Odd Future, a hip hop collective based in Los Angeles, CA. In 2011, Syd and Matt left Odd Future to form their own band and added Patrick, Christopher and Tay Walker, who had been all been touring members of Odd Future. Its band name was derived from a joke regarding another member of Odd Future's (Left Brain) frustration with having to answer questions about where he was from. Left Brain stated that he was going to start saying he was from "the internet." Members of the band thought it was a fitting name, and it stuck. After the band's formation, they immediately began working on music, releasing their debut studio album Purple Naked Ladies in December 2011, which was accompanied by music videos for the songs "Cocaine" and "Fastlane." Purple Naked Ladies was followed by the release of an EP by the same name in February 2012, which included four bonus songs, "Lonely Notes," "Live it Up," "Partners in Crime" and "Of It." Its second album, Feel Good, was released to critical acclaim in September 2013 and included the SoundCloud single release of the song "Give it Time." The release of the second album led to the band joining Mac Miller on tour in London to promote his album Watching Movies with the Sound Off. While The Internet was enjoying some success with its first two albums, it was the release of its third album Ego Death that gained the band the most notoriety, peaking at No 9 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Chart and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2016.
