The Little Mermaid St. Louis Tickets
The Little Mermaid St. Louis TicketsBased on the 1989 animated Disney film, The Little Mermaid transports audiences under the sea for an exotic adventure. The classic story, inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, revolves around the mermaid Ariel and her desire to live in the world above the sea. Old and new fans alike can enjoy The Little Mermaid whenever it comes to St. Louis.
An Adventure in FantasyFollowing the successful stage adaptations of its previous animated films, Disney approached Olivier-winning opera and theater director Francesca Zambello to create a musical version of The Little Mermaid. She had to solve many of the technical issues confronting the stage adaptation of the underwater setting. The production also marked the triumphant return of Alan Menken to the stage. Menken, who composed the music for the original film, worked with the production team to craft new music. Meanwhile, Doug Wright, who won a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for his 2003 play I Am My Own Wife, wrote the book for the musical. After a brief tryout period in Denver, The Little Mermaid premiered at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Nov. 3, 2007, with a cast of Sierra Boggess, Sherie Rene Scott and Norm Lewis. It closed on August 20, 2009, after 685 performances. The Broadway production received two nominations from the 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Original Score and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. It received another nomination from the Outer Critics Circle Award and three nominations from the Drama Desk Award. Following the end of its Broadway run, The Little Mermaid has been the subject of numerous tours and international productions, including in Russia and the Netherlands.
