Denver's answer to the revival of indie folk rock comes in the form of The Lumineers. In 2005, this band originally formed in Ramsay, N.J., with Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz, both singers and songwriters. Multi-instrumentalist Neyla Pekarek provided backing vocals, cello and keys from 2010 to 2018. Other members of the band have included Ben Wahamaki, Jay Van Dyke and Maxwell Hughes. The Lumineers' self-titled debut was bolstered by the single called "Ho Hey," which was released in 2012 and which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 as well as No. 1 on both the Billboard Adult Contemporary and Adult Top 40 charts. "Ho Hey" profoundly resonated with audiences, and the single has been certified 3-times platinum by the RIAA. The Lumineers released its platinum-certified sophomore album, Cleopatra, in 2016, and 2019-20 marks the band's return with the long-awaited album titled III.
The Impressive Prowess of The Lumineers
As acoustic pioneers of alternative Americana, The Lumineers is known for its dramatic experimentalism and musical precision. The group's classical approach to live performances yields a compelling auditory dynamic punctuated by a riveting orchestral tension. The group has reached No. 1 three more times on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart with "Ophelia," "Cleopatra" and "Gloria." Other charting tracks include "Stubborn Love," "Angela" and "Submarines." The band may have only released a few albums, but the members seldom take a break from the road. In fact, III is being supported by a highly anticipated wide-scale 2020 North American tour.
