The Musical Box is a tribute band that has been covering the work of Genesis since 1993. In addition to providing renditions of popular songs from Genesis, The Musical Box works to recreate iconic live performances as well. Many critics feel that this progressive rock band takes the "tribute" part of cover groups to an entirely new level not seen in other live shows.
A New Kind of Cover
The Musical Box came together to cover songs by the classic progressive rock band Genesis. In addition, the band's members thought it would be great to emulate that group's style and stage presence in addition to the iconic sounds. The founding member Sebastien Lamothe decided to look for practicing musicians who were also already fans of Genesis in order to fill out The Musical Box's roster. During early concerts, the band would use set pieces of outfits that the original Genesis members had used at classic performances, adding more authenticity to the cover band. For the first few years of its existence, The Musical Box placed the focus on the first three albums Genesis released, including Nursery Cryme, the album that includes the song that inspired the band's name. The Musical Box has gained a large following of progressive rock fans over the years. To date, it is the only Genesis cover group that has received public endorsement and support from the original band.
