The One Hundred Tickets
Variously described as a nu metal or metalcore band, the One Hundred offers audiences a unique blend of rock, grime, rap and punk. Originally from Guildford, the group first came to the attention of many music fans in 2014, when they put out their debut EP, Subculture. In support of the work, the group toured all over the UK and travelled to many destinations in Europe. In 2016, the band signed a major label recording deal with Spinefarm Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.
The One Hundred's critical acclaim
The band has been critically praised since its first recordings were released. For instance, the British magazine Kerrang! described the One Hundred as a producer of ‘crowd slaying songs’. Metal Hammer journalists have also heaped acclaim on the group, commenting favourably on the band’s singular take on rock. For many in the music press, it is the potential of the One Hundred to create a new sub-genre of rock that offers the greatest degree of fascination.
The One Hundred's career
The One Hundred formed as a new project when singer Jacob Field got together with a guitarist by the name of Tim Hilder. The two began writing together and working on early demo recordings of the musical ideas they were coming up with. A metalcore bassist was recruited to build up the band’s sound. Phil Kneller, a former member of Collapse the Control, fitted the bill. In late 2013, the band’s lineup was completed by Joe Balchin, who was brought in to provide drum patterns. He had previously been involved with a musical project alongside Hannah Greenwood, who would go on to become a member of hard rockers, Creeper.
The band’s first release was a single named “Breed”. Put out in 2013, it was played on BBC Radio 1 and led to the band being offered a session slot at the corporation’s famous Maida Vale studios. Further one-off singles, including “Kingsmen”, soon followed. After signing to an Australian independent label, Subculture came out in 2014. Field’s rapping was widely praised on the EP and the band picked up many more fans as a result of its press and radio attention. Following its release, the group went on to tour with Papa Roach and they won a slot at the prestigious Download Festival.
After signing to Spinefarm, the One Hundred released their first full studio album. Chaos and Bliss came out in June 2017. The band chose to release the work on CD as well as making it available for digital download. The LP featured new tracks such as “Dark Matters” and “Monster”, which were both first played on Radio 1, the station that had helped to launch their career.
