The Parisian Woman New York Tickets
The Parisian Woman New York TicketsThe 2013 play The Parisian Woman is a study of power and politics by esteemed writer Beau Willimon. Set mostly in a Capitol Hill townhouse, the story revolves around a woman named Chloe, who exploits her wit, sensuality and powerful insider connections to secure a judgeship for her husband, a DC attorney. However, her attempts to ascend the political ladder come at great personal expense. The Parisian Woman now comes to Broadway for the first time for audiences in New York to enjoy.
The Political GameThough The Parisian Woman is Willimon’s first play to appear on Broadway, he actually has a rich history on the stage. After working as a campaign intern, he got his start as a playwright with stage performances of Farragut North and Lower Ninth in 2008. A few years later, he adapted the story of Farragut North into a major motion picture, The Ides of March, starring Ryan Gosling and George Clooney. Willimon rose to prominence on TV and film with Mary Queen of Scots, The First and the American adaptation of House of Cards. When writing The Parisian Woman, he based his story on the 19th-century play La Parisienne by Henri Becque in which a married woman leverages the relationship with her lover to secure a government position for her husband. Though Willimon was unfamiliar with the play at the time, he soon immersed himself in the study of Becque’s work and the political climate in which it was written. The Parisian Woman made its world premiered at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, California on April 14th, 2013. The premiere featured a cast of Dana Delany, Steven Culp, Linda Gehringer, Rebecca Mozo and Steven Weber. However, right before the play could make its Broadway debut, the 2016 election prompted Willimon to make major rewrites to the story, feeling that it would be "anachronistic" to leave the seismic events unmentioned. The new version opened on Broadway’s Hudson Theatre, located just off Times Square in the heart of New York, on November 30th, 2017. After a run of 116 straight performances, it closed on March 11th, 2018.

What can I expect from a performance of the Parisian Woman? The Parisian Woman is a thought-provoking, incisive commentary on modern politics and society. Willimon’s intent was to adapt the farcical elements and chamber play style from Becque’s original work into a modern naturalistic setting (a chamber play makes use of a minimal number of characters and sets). As a reflection of modern Washington DC, the play explores the intersection of power, sex and politics. Though heavy on drama, the play also features moments of levity and humor. Due to the serious themes, the play is intended for mature audiences.
